Jess and Colin moved to Lexington in 2015 and were thrilled to discover an active community. Rockbridge County is full of runners, walkers, hikers, and bikers all enjoying this beautiful place.
There are endless trails, quiet country roads, local tracks, and places to explore. They opened LRS in 2018 as a way to play a small role in helping this active community continue exploring.
Jess began running in high school on her cross country team. She claims to be the slowest one on the team but fell in love with the sport and its people. She continued to run for fun through college and found that running was a great source of serenity as a young adult. She continues to pursue her running for so many reasons but feels most alive when she is running. Jess loves training for marathons.
Colin began running in college as an outlet for activity after the end of high school sports. He remembers very clearly how difficult it was to run for 10 minutes, then 15 minutes, and 20. Colin continues to run because running is honest and difficult. You cannot cheat running, and you only get out what you put in.
They know their community, and they provide a customer-based model of service that epitomizes the best of what it means to shop local, shop small. I cannot imagine ever getting this kind of service in a big box store, not to mention online!
Jess, Colin, and their staff know their business.
A robust downtown is part of what I love about Lexington and so prefer popping into a store like LRS and interacting with people who I know and who know me.
I love being able to talk over my options with a friendly and knowledgeable staff
Who doesn’t like trying on shoes?
When you come visit us at LRS our team can provide you with a gait analysis as part of our fit process for footwear. We look at your feet, AND we watch you move. We believe that fitting shoes to be used for movement is best done by observing movement.
The LRS team is trained in this gait analysis and understands the unique features and fit of each shoe. We offer a portfolio of options that crosses the spectrum - neutral, stability, road, trail, performance, lifestyle, recovery, and kids. We are here to guide and support you as you choose the shoe that works best for you. It’s a fun process for everyone.
science at work
I enjoy long walks with my dog or short runs, on the flood wall in Buena Vista or the Chessie Trail.
When I have the time, I love to run Little House Mountain.
Plank Road - beautiful scenery, winding road along a river. Leave the headphones at home!
The quiet, peaceful gravel roads near my home - the perfect place for my dog Annie to join me.
Our team looks forward to getting to know you when you come in the shop. We work with walkers who are looking for a good shoe to take the dog around the block. We work with people who work on their feet all day and need supportive shoes or insoles.
We work with runners who are looking to try something new and runners who don’t want to change a thing. We work with people just beginning their running journey and those trying to optimize their nutrition for their next race. We want to meet you where you are.
